What happened at "Northside" this week?

2020

23rd August 2020
Covid safe plan uploaded to Home page, dancing will re-commence on the 4th February 2021.

16th March 2020
Dancing suspended due to Covid 19 - our date to return to dancing is unknown.

12th March 2020
Well, it had to happen eventually, the lousy rainy weather got to everyone. To be fair, there were a few medical issues this week as well. We had 10 dancers through the door.
Not enough for Plus but we did dance 1 square for Mainstream.
Great to have John and Liz with us for the first time this year. John also won the Chocolate.
The Joker draw was held over, no winner and no increrase for next week, it stands at $75.
I did a few request songs and we did finish early.
All those who danced tonight have been offered a free night next time they come.

5th March 2020
Fabulous dance night at Northside. 2 squares for Plus and 3 for Mainstream, 27 dancers through the door. Great to see Heather & Barry for the first time this year and they brought Judy & Theresa from Gumdale with them. Did quite a few requests and some new songs. The heat was a little down, so enthusuasm was way up. Elsa missed picking the Joker and Mayet won the Chocolate. We talked about the panic of the Covid-19 virus and decided that we would not contribute, we danced as usual, with all the usual greetings.

4th March 2020
Margaret has been laid to rest at a really nice service. I estimate 150-160 (maybe more) attendees.
There was a fair representation of Square Dancers & Callers and a very large Family.
From memory, Margaret had 5 Kids, she had 12 Grand Children and 15 Great Grand Children, with 2 more to born before years end.

RIP my good friend (& Surrogate Mum)
Margaret Baines 19-11-38 until 26-2-2020.

27th February 2020
Another good night. Everyone had Margaret in their thoughts, but we all know that she would have wanted the dancing to continue. Afternoon storms ensured that it was still hot & muggy. 2 squares for Plus and 3 for Mainstream - 26 dancers through the door. Thanks Faith, for taking the door at short notice. Also great to have Nev & Noela from The Redlands visiting with us last night. Also good to see Rod & Margaret on the dance floor. Barry missed picking the Joker and Shirley won the chocolates again.

26th February 2020
Our good friend Margaret Baines passed away this afternoon. She will be very much missed by dancers and callers everywhere. I will really miss my travelling companion, we went to lots of dances together over the years.
Her funeral is 2pm, Wednesday the 4th March at Albany Creek.

20th February 2020
Another really hot night, thanks to all the dancers who made the effort to come out. I know the air con at home is very tempting. 23 dancers in the hall. Great to have Mike back on the door.
I tried out quite a few new Singing Calls and a couple of new Hoedowns.
Played with LH Spin Chain Thru quite a bit, dancers had fun.
Desiree missed out on picking the joker, it jackpots to $65 next week. Barry won the Kit-Kat.
We did finish a little early due to the heat. But at least it was dry - no storms and lashing rain.

13th February 2020
Well, it still hasn't stopped raining, but we went ahead any way. Only 18 dancers, but it was a good night.
Still hot & humid. Many of our dancers are away on various Cruises and a couple sick after having been on a cruise, as well as other medical issues. Great to get the first night under our belts.
Plenty of us dressed in red for Valentines day. All Hoedowns and Singing Calls were "Love" related.
Susan Young missed picking the Joker and Shirley won the chocolate.
It's been the strangest start to a SD year ever, first time I've ever had to postpone the first night back.

6th February 2020
It was a washout - The heavens opened and did not stop. By mid afternoon I decided that I didn't want anybody attemping to drive to the dance. I rang everybody on the list to cancel the night. Most felt that it was the best option and were quite relieved. Our hall manger even waived the rent last night, he didn't have to with such short notice. So let's all reset and attempt it again next week. Thank you for your understanding.

9th January 2020
Only 4 weeks to go until the new dance year starts, check HERE for some special dates this coming year.

2019

5th December 2019
What a way to end 2019. It was hot as Hades but a really enjoyable night. 52 dancers in the hall. Visitors from all over Brisbane - Gumdale, Allemanders, Bribie, EZ squares. The maximum we had on the floor was 4 squares. I think that was mostly due to the heat and it does get a little squeasy in our hall. Great to have Yvonne & Phil back with us. Non dancing visitors Carole Brown, and Lorna Warburton, haven't seen them in a hall for a while. Good to hear Jim has had some good medical news. Callers Galore - Elaine Davis , David Pearce, Margaret Baines and Me too. We dedicated the night to our good friend Graham Lawson who passed yesterday. I know Graham would have wanted us to enjoy the night. Jim & Faith both missed out on picking the Joker, it will start at $55 in the New Year. Sharyn won the chocolate. I lost track of how many, and who won the multitude of raffle prizes. As it was a free night, everybody supported the raffle very well. Profits from the night will be donated to the Salvos Christmas appeal. The dancers got together and organised a card (signed by all) and a very significant cash gift, very generous of you all.
And finally, 2019 has been a very successful year for our club. Thank you to all the Dancers & Visitors who have consistently come along during the year. The "More" has certainly made "The Merrier" this year.
So glad you are enjoying what I'm able to present on stage and really glad you obviously all enjoy each others company each week. See pics HERE

4th December 2019
Graham Lawson lost his battle with cancer. No more pain or worries mate!!

End of 2018 - See you on the 7th February 2019

 6th December 2018
Well, last night was legendary (at least in my mind). So much fun, the hall was buzzing early and just got better from there. 3 squares for plus, which started 15 minutes early, 'cause they just squared up. We danced 4 squares often throughout the evening. There were 45 dancers in the hall. Dancers came from all over Brisbane, I won't mention clubs, 'cause I'll miss one. Having said that, all but a few were regulars that dance with us often. Callers were Margaret Baines, David Pearce, Elaine Davis and of course, me. The raffle prizes were looking really good, thanks to those that donated items.
My thanks go to Mike on the door he does a great job every week. Thanks to Margaret for raffle ticket sales - haven't counted numbers, but it looks like a couple of hundred were sold. There was so much supper, I think many of us just rolled home. The surprise of the Evening was that Ron & Hazel got back from their caravan trip early and were able to join us. Given that it 's Christmas, door entry was free, but most bought raffle tickets. Proceeeds from our Christmas party are always donated to charity. We like the Salvos, but we are going to see if they are doing a fire appeal and see if we can help those from the recent bushfires. I wish everybody a festive Christmas and a prosperous New Year. See pictures HERE

 29th November 2018
What a great dance night we had. Mostly 2 squares for Plus, with sometimes 3 for Mainstream. 27 dancers in the hall, it was buzzing. Did a few Christmas songs and a few requests. Yes, it was warm, but everyone was really happy to dance. Robyn didn't pick the Joker and Viv won the chocolate. Next week is the big Christmas party & Break-up. Donations for the monster raffle have been coming in thick & fast. Please bring a plate next week for supper, and maybe some change for the raffles. Let's finish 2018 with a Bang!!
Well, I just went back through the attendance numbers for 2018.
The average number of dancers per night was 23, nearly 3 squares - a pretty good effort these days.
Our highest attended night was 33, early in the year.
I'm really hoping to smash that number next week for our Christmas party.
Our lowest attended night was 14, the coldest part of the year.
Thank you to all our members and visitors for dancing with us throughout the year.

We didn't get to dance 3 squares though. 2 squares for Plus and 2 for Mainstream. Great to have Theresa from Gumdale visiting, she also won the chocolate draw. Bill missed out on picking the Joker.
